I’m so happy to be back with blogging and having life settle into a new normal!
I consider many of you to be friends, and for those of you I don’t know, I’d love to get to know you better. What better way to introduce oneself than to sit down with a cup of tea or coffee and have a down-to-earth chat? So let’s do that. Ready?
I’ve tried to keep this blog real and not portray some fake version of myself. (Because in all reality, I am kinda a mess) In keeping with that, I want to invite you into my home for a tour. It’s not all cleaned and picked up and nice. But it’s never all clean and picked up and nice. I may have one or two rooms that are nice, but the rest are quickly undone by the younger children. Maybe you can relate.
Anyways, this is my life. Here we go…
Come on up the driveway. Try not to trip over the bikes and scooters and balls and pieces of chalk lying everywhere.
Follow me up the porch. Here’s where I love to sit with a good book and relax. (You can see the driveway in the background too. The house in the distance is one of our two neighbors. They are both super nice.)
Here’s the front door with Luke waiting to take a picture of us!
Just inside the front door… oh and another photo from Luke! (He really likes you!)
There’s a nice entryway just inside the front door with a huge coat closet. I’m already coming up with ideas to organize all the winter clothes…
To the left is the guest bathroom. Yes we have a guest bathroom. Our old house had one bathroom. We now have four. Awesomeness!
(And nope, I did not sweep the floor before taking this photo.)
My washer and dryer are in there too. I want Nate to build some sort of closet to separate the washer/dryer from the rest of the room. What do you think?
Back to the entryway….to the right of the front door is the living room.
Yep, the previous owners left their lovely sectional couch for us. We got rid of our old sectional (it was looking very bad loved after 7 years.)
You can see the stairs behind it. The door in the back right is another bathroom. We don’t use this one (well Luke does – he likes to use every bathroom in the house on a regular basis. Aside from my bathroom which I firmly put my foot down. I have my limit!) Hopefully sooner than later, Nate plans to rip out the bathroom and extend the kitchen. More on that later.
The living room is open and large – perfect for our busy family. The family computer is in the corner. I wouldn’t mind moving that to another spot later, but for now that is the best location for it. You can see the pile of portraits and wall decor we still need to hang sitting on the desk. We are 99% moved in, but there’s still a few finishing details.
The room to the left of the computer is the master bedroom.
We have a piano too – another gift from the previous owners. I haven’t played in years and I can’t wait to catch up. (I’m finding I’m VERY rusty.)
The door to the right is a closet door. If you continue walking past that, you’ll be in the kitchen.
Another view of the living room – Luke is by the front door we came in.
Now we’ll head to the kitchen.
It’s smaller than our old kitchen but thankfully I have a talented husband who is willing to remodel it for me! Behind the fridge (yes I was able to bring my Maytag appliances! Woot!) is a very small pantry and behind that the extra bathroom. That’s where we’ll be pushing the kitchen back for more space.
Here’s Nathan helping with the dishes.
Behind me are some pretty french doors looking out at the backyard and our patio area:
Turning back around, here’s the living room area again.
There’s no dining room in this house, but I don’t miss it.
I’ll show you our master bedroom suite now. (Yes we have a suite!) This is what you see walking into my room right now. A wrinkled (but made! I get a star for that!) bed and clean, folded laundry on top. Ha!
There’s two doors off the bedroom – the one on the right is the bathroom.
Oh my wonderful bathroom. For starters, it’s clean. I don’t have little boys peeing all over the seat constantly. (Hubs only occasionally leaves the seat up.) That’s heavenly right there.
(It was hard to get a good picture – I need a wider lens for that.)
There’s two sinks (yes my very own sink!), a soaking tub with jets, and a huge closet with shelves for storing things. And another smaller open closet for towels and things. And a lovely big window for letting natural light in.
Next is the walk in closet. It’s so big, there are two windows! I can actually hang all my clothes instead of storing half under the bed.
It’s like another room. I have bookcases, shoe racks, even an organizer for all my blog stuff (props for recipes and things) and photography accessories.
There’s a huge built-in shelf too where I’ve already organized things into different bins. #ImInLove
Back to the bedroom…here’s my desk where everything blog-related happens.
And to the right of that is a door leading outside to the backyard.
Now let’s go back through the living room and upstairs.
At the top of the stairs is a full bath for the kids. It’s small and smells bad so I didn’t take any pictures. I didn’t want to completely scare you away…
To the right is the boys’ room. This room is big and shaped so that we could sort of divide it in half. Nathan has one side. He loves sleeping under the skylight window.
The little boys have a bunk bed on the other side. Nathan’s desk kind of divides the room.
There’s no doors on the closet, but it’s a boys’ room. I don’t care and I know they definitely don’t. Haha!
Emily’s room is across the hall. She was sulkily cleaning up her room as I took these photos. The door she’s opening is the attic door. There’s a huge area that we plan to eventually turn into another two bedrooms.
Em’s bed
Her skylight (I love natural light.)
And to the left of that is a huge built-out (yes, not in) closet. I’m still working on figuring out the best way to organize it.
Now we’ll go back downstairs and finally down into the family room.
At the bottom of the stairs, if you turn left you’ll find our basement area. I have pantry storage shelves here and Nate has tools and stuff further back. We won’t go too far in there. You can already see it’s a bit scary.
We’ll turn around and head into the family room. This is the finished area of the basement and where the majority of the toys in the house belong. I absolutely love having a room to put all their toys and books.
The bunnies live down here too. (Although they can and do hop up the stairs and through the cat hole at the top.) Say hello to Katniss and Primrose.
Behind us is a door heading outside. Yes, we’re just about done. Oh, those kids. They’ve left the door open again. (We’ve had some bunny escapees lately.)
Back out front, you can see our fire pit and the wooden frame for an old swingset. (Next summer.)
The view from the backyard
Josie the cat loves it here too.
I can see us here for many, many years. This may even be our forever home.
There’s my little tour of our house. I hope you felt at home and could relax a little.
Now it’s your turn. Tell me a little about you. If you’re a blogger, leave me the link so I can check out your site. I’ve love to visit you too!
